21 Days of Yoga: Days 16 and 17

21 Days of YogaAre you just now checking out the 21-day challenge? Well, make sure you start from the beginning!

It has finally warmed up a little bit after a couple of absurd nights where the overnight temperature dipped down into the teens. I find it much easier to be productive when I’m not half frozen (which begs the question of how I managed to graduate college with honors after three years in upstate New York, but I digress). It’s also easier to drag myself out of bed in the mornings. Good timing, Mother Nature, because today’s practice in the 21-day challenge called for me to get my yoga on in the morning. Beef Tenderloin and Green Bean Salad

Delicious salad made with leftover beef tenderloin, green beans and a couple other things I had on handI seriously toyed with a couple different names for this salad, like “Beef and Bean Salad,” “Next Day Salad,” or my personal favorite, “Leftovers Salad.” But, none of those things sounded very appetizing. Whatever the name, I have to say, I’m a little bit obsessed with this salad. Click here to read the rest of this post »

21 Days of Yoga: Day 15

21 Days of YogaFirst time reading about the 21-day challenge? Get caught up by heading back to the beginning!

It seems that Wednesday snuck up on me this week, I suppose because of the extended weekend. Not that I’m complaining; these things just always come as a bit of a surprise to my fragile, change-averse brain. It was also chilly again today, which made my body want to shut down and hibernate for the next couple of months. I was feeling a little bit lethargic when I got home, but I avoided the temptation to nap. Instead, I forged ahead into the third (and final) week of the 21-day challenge. 21 Days of Yoga: Days 13 and 14

21 Days of YogaNew here? Head back to the beginning for the full experience!

Today was my first day back to work since New Year’s, and my first real, full day back since Christmas. I pretty much suck getting back into any routine once I’ve fallen out of it, and today was no exception: I forgot to bring a lunch, almost forgot my coffee and just generally felt out of sorts. It was also ridiculously cold today, and I was so glad to be able to hole up in the warm(ish) house once I got home. Thankfully, I didn’t have to look any further than the comfort of my own living room for the one routine I’ve actually maintained lately: The 21-day challenge! 21 Days of Yoga: Day 12

21 Days of YogaJust getting here? We’re over halfway through so make sure you start from the beginning to get caught up!

I feel like things have been crazy here the last couple of days. I’m back to the grind tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll develop a better routine for myself with yoga and everything else. With a couple lapses here and there, I’ve been consistent with the 21-day challenge. Though various things (moving slow post-New Year’s Eve, underestimating the time I needed to clean and cook for our dinner party) kept me from doing it yesterday, I jumped right back in today with Day 12. 21 Days of Yoga: Day 11

21 Days of Yoga

Just getting here? Check out the beginning of the challenge to get caught up!

It’s the last day of 2011, and also Day 11 of my 21-day yoga challenge. What better way to bid farewell to the year than with some yoga? I’ve been sitting in front of my computer for a good part of the day, drafting and editing and re-editing my look back at 2011 and goals for 2012. So, I enjoyed the opportunity to get up, stretch and do something healthy and productive for myself before heading out for New Year’s festivities. Click here to read the rest of this post »

Ringing in the Year of the Water Dragon

2012: Year of the Water DragonThe holidays have always evoked mixed emotions for me. Christmas has become more hectic, stressful and commercial than ever, and I have a hard time getting excited about it. For many years, Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays, but it’s been edged out by New Year’s these last couple of years. Perhaps that’s because the last few years have been eventful in ways both good and bad, full of ups and downs. For me, the turning of a new year represents redemption, a second chance to improve, and the opportunity to build upon the successes of the previous year. Click here to read the rest of this post »

21 Days of Yoga: Day 10

21 Days of YogaFirst time reading about the 21-day challenge? Head back to the beginning to get up to date!

Wow, I made it to double digits! It’s been a crazy sort of week – we more or less shut down the last week of the year at work, so I’ve been at the office less than usual, staying up way past my bedtime and just generally not adhering to any sort of schedule. But, I have worked hard to stay consistent in making time for yoga, regardless of what each day happens to have in store. Click here to read the rest of this post »

Soup Swap

Soup SwapI know I post too much about food, but I can’t pass this one up. (I also know that my food posting is inversely proportional to the frequency of my visits to the gym). Sometime before Thanksgiving, my food critic friend Jenny put out a general inquiry about whether anyone had ever participated in a cookie swap. “No,” I replied, “but I am somewhat obsessed with doing a Soup Swap.” Of course, I would have just continued to sit around talking about how fun it would be, so I’m glad that Jenny organized one, thereby further rewarding and enabling my laziness. 21 Days of Yoga: Day 9

Just now getting here? Head back to the beginning to get the full story!

Wow, another day, another post already! It was just a little over 12 hours ago that I completed Day 8. But, after staying up way too late last night, I definitely needed a little wake-up call this morning. Click here to read the rest of this post »
